I think my favorites of Robyn's stamps are the "punny" ones, and she has so many of them! They're cute, they're fun, and they coordinate so well with many Cricut cartridges. I love this font too, and the fact that I could find the perfect coordinating sentiment in the same font. Have you heard of Bountiful Baskets? It is a fruit & veggie co-op that I have been participating in for a couple of years now. It is a great way to get fresh fruits and veggies for an insanely good price - especially in the wintertime. It is not in every state, but quite a few from east to west. Even if you don't have Bountiful Baskets, there may be other opportunities for co-ops in your area. Once in a while I get a large amount of a particular fruit or vegetable, so I have to go looking for recipes so I can use it up. Thank goodness for Allrecipes.com! I love their ingredients search.

I thought I'd share a very simple and tasty recipe that I discovered this past weekend. It was a family pleaser! Even my if-it's-healthy-it-will-kill-me husband liked it.;-)

Green Pepper Tomato Salad

3 medium tomatoes, seeded and chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 celery rib, thinly sliced
1/2 cup chopped red onion
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Directions

In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, green pepper, celery and onion. In a small bowl, combine the vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. Stir into tomato mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, stirring several times. Serve with a slotted spoon.

I need a little Dory to brighten my day today, and I hope she'll brighten yours too. We've had some sort of bug working it's way through my house, and I think it has decided to take up residence in my lungs. It's been over a week and I'm getting a little tired of the hacking, but I guess I just need to take Dory's advice and, "Just keep swimming..."

As some of you know, I moved towards the end of last year. We didn't move very far away, but we still have new neighbors, a new church, and all the change and adjustment that goes along with that. That is why I thought the stamp, "Bloom where you are planted" would be perfect for my journal - as a reminder to make the best of change and new opportunities. The journal was made by embellishing a composition book, and I used the Cricut cartridge Kate's ABC's for the flower and the name plate.

Crafting Night at Andrea's

Hello all! Life is slowly starting to return to normal after a wonderful, albeit hectic, Christmas holiday. I had family staying with me for a week and a half (4 people, one dog! ;-) ) and it was so fun - lots of cousin play time, good food, late night movies (most of which I slept through), and JUST DANCE parties on the Wii. This is going to sound really strange, but I'm just entering the world of Wii. My MIL gave us one for Christmas, and although my children have used one before at friends' houses, I've never even touched one. Well, I've got a few months before I'll see my sister again, and then we're having a Just Dance rematch baby! ;-)

It was also nice to have their miniature poodle Jake here. We have been promising the kids for years that we would get them a dog as soon as we got into our own home. Now that we are, they're making follow through! Waahhhh! Honestly, I love dogs - other people's dogs. The ones that I can cuddle with and enjoy and not be responsible for. We will get a dog, but we've only been here a couple of months. I'm going to give myself a little more time to settle in before I take on another project.

Speaking of projects, next week I am having some friends over for this month's Crafting Night. We decided that we should do something for Valentine's Day. I know, I know - it makes me crazy too that as soon as Christmas is over, there's Valentine's Day stuff everywhere. It's the life of a crafter - always looking forward to the next holiday/season and reason to create! I decided to make a nugget box/card ensemble. Do you remember nugget boxes? I made about a million of these 5-6 years ago and haven't done anything with them since. Can you even still buy nugget boxes? I guess I need to find out...

The box that I made holds 8 Hershey's Nuggets. If you would like instructions on how to make nugget boxes of all sizes there's some great instructions here. I'm assuming that most of the women that will be making these will want to give them to their hubby's, so I tried to make this slightly more masculine. What can I say? I like glitter, whimsy, buttons and bows - masculine is a bit of a stretch for me.

The website will go on, but the retail store is closing after I don't know how many years. I first came here in 1994 and have been a frequent customer ever since. Such a shame.

Hello all! Well obviously I haven't been spending anywhere NEAR enough time on my blog, and definitely not enough time papercrafting. Here's part of the reason why:

My husband and I just returned from a cruise to Cozumel. Ya, I know, it's been rough - 80 degree weather in December, shows every night, food that I didn't have to cook... Honestly, it weirded me out a little hearing Christmas music playing and seeing decorations all over the ship. It just didn't seem right! It was wonderful though - very relaxing and nice to be able to spend that one on one time with my husband.

I got home just in time to get ready for family to arrive for Christmas, so it's been a little hectic, but in the best way possible. I have been doing some crafting though. Here's one of the presents that I made:

Hello my bloggy friends! I hope that you are all feeling the warmth and joy that the holiday season brings. And since I know that you are all fellow crafters, I hope that you have left yourself enough time to get the projects/gifts done that you need to, and that you're OK with plan B if they don't get done! LOL! I really do love to make and give homemade gifts whether it be cards, homemade soap, or baked goods to name a few. This year has been a little different than in the past because as many of you know I moved and started a job a month ago. Well, now I'm leaving on a cruise in a couple of days! Hooray for my wonderful husband and the good job that he did at work that earned him an all expense paid trip! But needless to say, I'm having to change my expectations this year as far as what I'm going to have time to make.

Have you been wondering where I've been? Well, I've been in my new home for a month now and we're starting to feel a little more settled. It's been a little crazy though! I started a part-time job the same weekend that I moved - I know, what was I thinking? I've been looking for a little while and it kind of fell in my lap. It was the right thing to do, but it hasn't been easy. Although setting up my craft room was one of the first things I did, most nights I am so exhausted that it is the furthest thing from my mind. But I know I'm in good company, so who am I to whine?

I have invited some ladies over to my home Saturday night for some crafting time, so I thought I would share one of the cards that I designed for the occasion.

My Pink Stamper Design Team - November!

Welcome! Are you all eagerly preparing to feed your friends and family on Thanksgiving? Are you cleaning your home so you'll be ready for company? Are you absolutely flabbergasted that time has flown by so quickly and that it's that time of year again? ;-) Well in the midst of all the chaos don't forget to take a moment for yourself and spend some quality time with your papercrafting supplies - especially your My Pink Stamper stamps and your Cricut!

This month my fellow designers and I were given the challenge to create a card using a non-traditional fold. I was really excited about this because trying something new really gets my creative juices flowing - just the inspiration I need. I decided to try the tri-shutter fold. This is what it looks like flat:

Not only do we have new Cricut cartridges to look at from this month's Hello Thursday release from Provo Craft, but Robyn at My Pink Stamper has also released 8 new stamp sets!

First, the My Pink Stamper release. What is really exciting is Robyn now has a QR code on the back of each stamp set. So if you have an iPhone or Smart phone (of which I have neither - so I'll just pretend I know what I am talking about!), download the free app and then you'll be able to watch an exclusive video of Robyn making a project with that stamp set! Technology is so cool.

Now on to Hello Thursday. They have released 13 new cartridges this month! If I had to choose favorites, I'd have to say Ribbons & Rosettes, Sweater Weather, New Testament, and Paper Trimmings. Although, I'm really excited that they have released a cartridge for Canadians - Go Canada!

Good memories

Today's post is both sad and happy. I found out that a dear friend of our family's passed away a couple of days ago. Although we will miss her, this is not a sad occasion. She was 92 years old and had lived a meaningful life of love and service. I firmly believe that there is life after death, and that families can be together forever. She has been reunited with her husband and I'm sure is ready to begin serving on the other side.

We will miss you Gertrude.

Pinkalicious Blog Hop Friday!

Tonight is going to be such a fun hop because it is all about goodies! Goodie bags can be so fun to make, fun to embellish, and of coarse so fun to eat. We are foodies at my house, and with the holidays right around the corner you can bet that I am trying to think of new and creative ways to deliver my homemade goodies that I give as gifts. You'll see that tonight's project is more of a goodie box than a goodie bag. In fact, it's nine boxes - all stacked and ready to fill with various holiday treats.

I made the boxes using Tags, Bags, Boxes & More and my trusty Gypsy, cut at 8.5". Using glue dots, I stuck all the boxes together so that the flaps would all open down - then whatever I put inside won't just fall out when the boxes are opened. I used some wire-edged ribbon all around the outside of the boxes for a little extra help keeping them together, and of coarse for a festive touch. All of the Cricut cuts came from the Winter Woodland cartridge. What a gem it is! I love this font, and all the snowflakes and scallops.

I am happy to report that I survived my week of canning last week - barely! I can't even bring myself to do an inventory this year, but if you want an idea of what I have done in the past check out this link. I am not doing that much this year though, thank goodness. I think I am about done with my harvest this year - maybe a few more tomatoes (if any survived the frost), and carrots to be picked. Then it's time to rip everything out so it will be ready for next year.

Here's another Christmas card for your viewing pleasure!

This is one of my favorite ways to make a simple card, by using a border punch along the bottom, some great cuts with a great sentiment, and embellish! Although I notice that the sentiment is a little hard to see in this picture. It says, "Believe," and is from the My Pink Stamper set Christmas Wishes. What a crazy week this is going to be! I have pears coming out of my ears right now. Yesterday I canned 7 quarts of pears, and 6 1/2 pints of pear jam. I swore that I wasn't going to do any canning this year because I knew that we would be busy with preparations for (hopefully) our move. But pear jam is our family's favorite! And then yesterday a good friend asked me if I wanted any tomatoes. Glutton for punishment that I am, I gratefully said yes because my tomato crop has been a little pitiful this year. And I can't go back to store bought salsa! So, I have my work cut out for me - especially since it is supposed to snow in a few days. It's time to bring in the harvest! Isn't this the most beautiful sight:

It's not a great picture, but I think jars of canned goods are so beautiful!

But enough of that. I thought I would share another Christmas card with you this morning.

Let the Christmas cards....begin!

I would like to start off today by apologizing for my infrequent posting lately. I am living in temporary, rather cramped circumstances right now while we go through the process of purchasing a home that is a short sale. If any of you have been through this, you know that it can take a long time! Thankfully we are pretty far along and there is an end in sight. But in the meantime my family and I are rather squashed which makes living, let alone crafting, a rather laborious process. I miss my craft room! It makes a big difference in my ability to create when my supplies aren't as accessible and I don't have a clean, quiet space to work in. Hopefully, in a few weeks we'll be moving into our house and I can get my craft room established - just in time to need to start producing in earnest for the holidays!

Did someone say holidays? This past weekend I brought out some Christmas card samples and asked my husband which one he liked the best, and he responded, "You're making Christmas cards already?!" To which I replied, "It is a crafter's prerogative to start start the holidays early!" Especially when there are classes to teach, deadlines to be met, swaps to complete...

So this week I will be showing some, what I would call, intermediate level cards. These are pretty simple designs, with some slightly time consuming details. If you want to make cute Christmas cards my best advice is to invest in some good paper, and add a little bling. Here is my husband's favorite:

The beginning of autumn arrived with a bang at my house - with 80 degree weather and my oldest daughter and I having a cold. Isn't that just so wrong!? No matter, I celebrated the start of my favorite time of the year by creating a card that incorporates some of my favorites things - apples, and the color red.

This is also the time of year that I start to think about which cards I would like to give in the assortment that I give as Christmas gifts. I think this one's a keeper! ;-)

My Pink Designer - Spookalicious!

It's that time again! I am so excited that this month my fellow My Pink Stamper Design Team members and I are featuring one of Robyn's new stamp sets: Spookalicious!

I LOVE Halloween! I love the fun of costumes, the nip in the air, and of coarse - the candy! Don't you just love seeing jars full of brightly colored candies? It's such a fun and easy way to add a splash of color to your decor. I picked up this jar at my local craft store and tied some black tulle around the neck in a bow. Then I got my Mini Monsters cartridge and made the little witch. For her little trick-or-treating bucket I used the Gypsy so I could hide the contours on the face of the pumpkin. That way I had a clean slate to use the "Trick or Treat" stamp from Spookalicious.

I think I'm in love

Do you ever wonder if you spend altogether too much time online? Well, if you do you should stop reading right now because I have found a new addiction. I was first introduced to Pinterest after reading my friend Emily's blog. Her blog is very inspiring to me because she is a gifted writer, has great recipes, and is a very talented homemaker and decorator. A few weeks ago she mentioned Pinterest on her blog and at the time I just glanced at it, but didn't really spend a lot of time there. Then my friend Wendi mentioned how much time she was spending on Pinterest, so I decided I needed to look around some more. Bad idea! ;-)

How do people come up with these ideas? Who would have thought that a virtual pinboard could be such a feast for the eyes, such a source of inspiration, such a simple way to turn an idea into art? I like to go straight into the DIY section. Here are some of my favorites from today:

Backpack tutorial

Here it is folks! The long awaited backpack tutorial. I hope this all makes sense!

OK, to start out with I would suggest choosing a cardstock that is double sided - that way you've 2 fun, coordinating patterns. Half the work is already done for you! The other thing that I am going to suggest is a really good adhesive - I used Glue Dots brand Glue Lines.

The dimensions (all expressed in inches) for each of the pieces are:
(1) 12 x 4 (for the box part of the backpack)
(1) 4 x 6 1/2 (for the flap of the backpack)
(2) 1 x 8 (for the straps)
(2) 5 x 2 1/4 (for the sides)
(1) 1/2 x 3 1/2 (for the little loop/tab on the top)

Score the 12 x 4 piece of cardstock at 5, 6 and 7 inches. The reason for the score at 6 inches is to make a little gusset at the bottom of the backpack:

After you have scored the body of the backpack, you are going to attach the flap. If you are using double sided paper, remember to flip your flap (NOT like the first picture), so that when you fold it over you will see the other side. I suggest overlapping the pieces about 1 1/4 inches, and having two lines of adhesive - one right on the edge, and the other about 1" in:

From there you are going to start assembling your sides. Score your 5 x 2 1/4 pieces lengthwise at 1/4" and 2" so that you have 1/4" flaps on either side. Apply adhesive to the flaps. Note: This is another spot where you need to pay attention to what side of the paper you want facing out.

Apply the sides to the body of the backpack:

You will notice that the flap in the above picture still has a square edge. If you would like a rounded edge, use your favorite tool, or do what I did and just use a bowl and trace the edge and cut with a good, old fashioned pair of scissors! ;-)

I pinched the sides just a little:

From there you are going to apply your straps. At the top of the straps (the part that would normally sit on your shoulders) you are going to run two strips of adhesive - right on the edge, and about 1/4" in. Apply to the back of the backpack about 1/4" from the sides, and about 1/2" from the top. Then apply 1 strip of adhesive on the other side and on the other end of the flap, and adhere along the bottom edge of the backpack.

To make the little tabby thingy, you will fold the strip at a right angle about 1" from each end:

And then adhere to the back of the backpack between the straps:

From there, embellish as desired!

To keep the flap closed, I used the velcro tabs that already have adhesive on them. Thank you much for your interest in my little backpack. I hope this has helped! If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Scrapbook USA Expo!

I just wanted to share with my Utah friends that one of my favorite events is happening this weekend - the Scrapbook USA Expo in Sandy, UT, at the South Towne Expo Center. I have been attending this event twice a year for at least 6 years. What could be better than an enormous room full of tables to scrap/craft at, lots of great food, music & fun, and of coarse - shopping! Honestly, I've never had the time to bring my supplies with me and scrap all day, but I sure have fun with the shopping part! A little too much fun...

They have so many great companies there, and great prices. My favorites are:

And then of coarse Provo Craft will be there demonstrating all their latest machines and products. Do you think I can talk them into giving me an E2? ;-)

Holiday Doodlebuggin'

Well, you may have figured out that the reason I was spending some quality time with my Doodlebug Design Inc products last week was because I was preparing my submission for their first Design Team call. I have loved their products for years, so naturally I would love the opportunity to get other people excited about them too!

So far you have seen my layout, and one of my cards. Today I would like to share with you the rest of my submission. I think one of the best parts of being a crafter is it gives you a reason to get into the holiday mood early! I hope these will help get you in a holiday kind of mood too.

I just love Halloween! This is an 8 inch foam wreath that I wrapped in black tulle. The fence and the spider were made using the Mini Monsters Cricut Cartridge, and the spider web was made using Paper Doll Dress-Up. I have the most adorable Doodlebug Design Halloween Jellishments which is where the round purple embellishment (with the spider & web) and the Halloween came from. I also used the Doodlebug Design Spooky Town Assortment Boutique Brads together with some cute Halloweeny (is that a word?) baker's twine. Finish with some ribbon, and voila!

And last but not least:

I just love how this turned out. It's so simple, but so cheerful! I started with a white card base, and followed with green, and then red cardstock. The Christmas tree in the center is another one of those cute Jellishments from their Christmas assortment. On either side of the tree I just cut and matted circles in white and green, then placed candy canes from the Doodlebug Design Christmas Candy Assortment Boutique brads. I then finished with some Christmasy baker's twine.

More Doodlebuggin'

Here's the next installment in my Doodlebug Design Inc projects. And this is why I love their products so much - they're just so fun! The adorable paper in the background is from their Summertime Collection and is called Little Lady. I took three cuts from their Feeling Groovy Cute Cuts - the pink flower, the tag, and the "smile". Then I took some brads from their Cherries Jubilee Boutique Brads - one is the center of the flower, and the other is the red with the white polka dots.

You might also notice that I have started using baker's twine. Baker's twine is everywhere in the papercrafting world right now, and I have to admit, when I first noticed it I was not sold on it at all. But I have seen too many adorable projects embellished with twine, so I had to get some and give it a try. I wish I could say that this is the Doodlebug Design Doodle Twine, but it was just introduced at CHA in July and isn't readily available yet. Maybe they'll have some at the Scrapbook USA Expo next week! I really like the look it creates.

My absolute favorite papercrafting company is Doodlebug Design Inc. All I have to do is go to the Doodlebug isle at my local craft store, and it just makes me happy! I love their color palette, I love the fun images, their boutique brads, their glitter paper, I love to go to their booth during the Scrapbook USA Expo (which is coming up BTW), I just LOVE them! I love what they did at this summer's CHA. Did you know that they won an award at CHA for their super fun booth? How could they not? Their wonderful new products and creative exhibiting just screamed fun!

Last week I spent some quality time with my Doodlebug Design Inc products, and this week I am going to share them with you!

I made this layout using primarily their Welcome Home collection. Aren't those just the cutest kids you've ever seen? I don't know whose they are - I just found them on the street and dragged them in for a picture! ;-)

Happy August everyone! And why are we happy? Because today is the first day of school here! LOL! Seriously though, this summer flew by for me and I think this is the first time that I'm kind of sad it's time for the kids to go back to school.

What's for dinner?

Even though it is hot as Hades outside right now, at this time of the year my mind inevitably starts thinking of Autumn. It's my favorite time of the year for so many reasons, not the least of which being that I love apples. They were my inspiration for my most recent Cricut Creations class project at my local Joann. They had these really cute Darice chalk boards, so I picked one up and embellished it using the Country Life Cricut cartridge.

These are the colors that I have in my kitchen, so eventually this will be sitting on my kitchen counter (or maybe hanging on the wall), so I can leave messages for my kids, write what we're having for dinner, and who knows what else. I'm sure the kids will get in on the fun too, so hopefully whatever is written on here stays polite! ;-)

This is me! I live in Utah, but am originally from the Toronto area in Ontario, Canada. My husband and I have been married for 15 years and my life revolves around my three children, my Church, and my paper fetish! I teach piano lessons, and Cricut classes at my local Joann. I have been papercrafting for 20 years, but I have to say, my love has grown to a whole new level since getting my Cricut a year and a half ago. If I had to classify my papercrafting style, I would call it whimsical. I love fun images, sparkles, and vivid colors.

For my project I have showcased Robyn's new set Yummy-licious:

I just LOVE this set! It was almost like Robyn custom designed Yummy-licious for me because not only do I like to bake, but I love to use yummy images in my scrapbooking and cardmaking.

I didn't use an edible image in this card though - see how versatile this set is? I have been wanting to make this card for weeks now, and when I got Yummy-licious I finally had the perfect sentiment to go with it. As you have probably noticed from the name of my blog, I am all about all things homey! These are pretty basic cuts on this card - the only things that required the Gypsy were the fence and the grass. I welded those together so I could get the length I wanted.

Box Social

Have you ever been to an old fashioned Box Social? Well, I don't know how old fashioned the one that I went to was, but it sure was fun. I joined with other ladies from church at a local park with my decorated box filled with yummy food, and then we played the game where you could choose a box, or steal from someone else. And guess who won the prize for the cutest box? Me! Although honestly, the best prize was that my mom who is visiting from Canada right now was able to come with me.

I had so much fun with this! Very girl power, eh? I used an 8x8 paper mache box and trimmed with cardstock, but my favorite part is definitely the shoe and purse on top. The shoe is Ellen Hutson's design, and the purse came from the cartridge Bags, Tags, Boxes and More. I filled it with a chicken salad sandwich on homemade bread, cucumbers and carrots, a homemade banana oatmeal muffin, Perrier, chocolate covered strawberries, and some peppermint bark. Feeling Crabulous!

Hello! I have a little something to share with you today that has been sitting in pieces on my desk for about two weeks now. It's been a little crazy around here, and promises to get even crazier as I prepare for family to arrive, and then to move shortly thereafter. Fun times...

Yesterday I felt a little like old mother Hubbard because it had been one of those days where there had been a little too much, "She did this," and "He did that," so kids went to bed EARLY! Which means that I had a little peace and quiet to play in my craft room.

Have I ever mentioned that I like red? I really like red. To look at my projects you would probably never know that, but it's my favorite color. Especially today since it's Canada Day! I haven't been able to celebrate it for a few years, but I'm happy to report that this year I have some Canadian friends with whom I can celebrate the land of my birth.

I just love this little crab from the Create a Critter cartridge! And of coarse Robyn of My Pink Stamper has the perfect sentiment to go along. Lovin' those stacks

Good morning! And it has been a good morning - I've already been on my walk, it's a beautiful day, and it's going to be a HOT day. Today is definitely going to be a great time to take some pictures to put in my "Splash" layout from my previous post. And since it is going to be a beautiful summer's day I thought I would share another layout that I created for one of my classes that I teach at Joann.

If this layout looks slightly familiar, it could be that you're remembering my Hawaii layout from a couple of months ago. What can I say - I like this layout! I have to admit though, there's a moment after you have taken the time to assemble a big cut like the jar with the butterflies that you wonder, "Do I really want to cut this in half?" I just really like the effect though. And I love this paper. I used the Lemon Flower Stack from DCWV. They have been coming out with such beautiful stacks and they are becoming my "go-to" materials more and more because, well, I like them, but also because it's easy for me to put on a list of supplies for my students. Instead of me or them having to put together an assortment of paper that all coordinates, the work is totally done for you! You will also see that Robyn at My Pink Stamper had the perfect stamps to go too! The sets that I used for this layout are Buggy Punnies and Spectacular Sayings .

My Pink Design Team - June

I am so excited to be joining with Robyn at My Pink Stamper and my fellow Pink Designers to share this month's project. We were asked to create a project that was bright, fun, and of coarse using My Pink Stamper stamps! As I was pondering what I would make, my mind kept going back to one cartridge that to me is the perfect example of bright and fun - Create a Critter!

We have a new park in town, and in it they have a really fun water play area for the kids that I know we'll be spending a lot of time at this summer. I'm sure they'll make a splash!

After being cooped up during a long cold winter, and then a cold, wet spring, I feel like we need to just get out and play. So Robyn's stamp "Live Life to the Fullest" from her Spectacular Sayings set was perfect. And then to go along with my splash/underwater theme I used the "That's Fin-tastic" stamp from Even More Punnylicious - I just inked the "Fin-tastic" part. Aren't the octopus and sea horse cute? I can't believe I haven't used them before. Add a scallop shell for some journaling and there you have it!

No Cricut (GASP!) Creations

I know, this is very shocking! It has been a LONG time since I've made a project that didn't involve the Cricut. Well, I teach primarily Cricut classes at my local Joann, and I have been asked to start teaching basic card classes that don't use the Cricut. After much pondering, I decided for my first class I would teach the accordion flower technique. I also thought I would challenge myself and make all the cards from the same DCWV stack, which in this case is the Nana's Kids Stack. If you have been to my blog before you'll notice these are a lot simpler than what I usually make, but that's because I'm gearing them towards beginner to intermediate crafters. That said, I'm really happy with how they turned out! I guess I should also confess that I didn't exactly stick to the stack (as it were). I did have to use white cardstock, one sheet of violet cardstock, and one sheet of red. I was pretty close though! ;-)

Since we are finally starting to have some blue skies here, I thought I would celebrate by participating in this week's challenge at the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog. The challenge for this week is to make a project using the color blue, and a cloud. I am also using my recently purchased Kate's ABCs cartridge, which I love! So full of little girl sweetness. The stamp I am featuring is from the My Pink Stamper set called Sweet Baby. Robyn always has just the perfect sentiments! For more information on where you can purchase her stamps, click here.

The color blue, well that was easy. I love the combination of blue and yellow for little girls - probably because I have two girls. My favorite color on my oldest is light blue, and my favorite color on my younger daughter is yellow. And they both have dark hair, so you might say that this little girl is the perfect representation of my daughters - although they're not so little anymore (sniff). The cloud, on the other hand, was a bit of a challenge. I don't think I have any cartridges that have clouds on them (oops, just thought of one!), so I used my Gypsy to weld some circles and an oval together. My cloud looks ever so slightly like a frog's head, but that's OK! ;-)

Just a little something for a swap

I am participating in a swap this month where the theme was Monochromatic (plus neutral) and bling. It ended up being a really good Get To Know Your Cartridge kind of exercise. I used Florals Embellished and relied heavily upon my Creative Features keys. I love this cartridge, but let's face it - the images are extremely detailed and to make a large quantity of these cards would have taken forever had I done all the layering and piecing. So I decided to use the "shift" key with the Phrase feature to create a simplified butterfly, and then matted using the Silhouette Blackout and Shadow keys. Here is what I made:

Welcome to my blog for this month's My Pink Stamper design team project! This month's theme was the ever elusive, ever challenging, MAN project. LOL! Is it just me, or is it really hard to create projects for the men in our lives? Well, I can think of lots of projects for my husband: cutting the grass, re grouting the the tub...

Seriously though, my work definitely tends to err on the side of whimsical and sparkly, with bright colors and ribbon. Definitely not man material. But I happen to have the best husband and best father on the planet, so Father's Day is something that is definitely worth celebrating. It's good to stretch our creativity - just one of the many reasons I like "challenges", and especially love being a My Pink Designer! Robyn's stamps are the best! The stamp for today's project comes from the set Spectacular Sayings:

Do you like to shop in the dollar section at Target? My girls LOVE to go to Target for that reason alone. I love it when things are on sale for 75% off. My project today comes from one of my Target Dollar Spot finds - a little Red Hots lunch box, that I embellished and made a coordinating card for. My husband does a lot of traveling, so it was only natural to adopt a travel theme for my project:

I thought that the little "suitcase" would be a perfect gift card holder! And what do you need when you travel? A passport of coarse! Now I admit that a gift card to Mimi's may not be the most manly of gifts, but this is what I had on hand to show you. I'll have to replace it with a gift card for Cabela's or something like that.

You will notice from previous posts that my relationship with my Gypsy had a bit of a rocky start. But I can honestly say now that I rarely make a project without it! I used the Gypsy with this project to weld both "Dad" and "Passport", and for the cart Gypsy Wanderings for the star emblem on the passport and the tag on the card and suitcase. I also used the hide contour feature to remove elements on the tag.

Are there any Facebook fans out there? Have you been following the Craftiest Cricut Mom contest that is taking place right now? At the beginning of May, Provo Craft started the contest on Facebook and the grand prize is a new Cricut Expression II!!! We were told to submit a picture of the project of which we were most proud. Well, I submitted this:

If you have been following my blog for a while, you may remember that I originally made this cake for a different contest. This is definitely a project that I put my everything in to. For the Craftiest Cricut Mom contest we also had to explain why we were the Craftiest Cricut Mom. Here is what I wrote:

* You show up for parent-teacher conference and one of the first things the teacher says is, “You do a lot of crafts at your house, don’t you?” (true story...)

I love working with my hands and doing crafts of all kinds, but my creativity rose to a whole new level when I got my Cricut!

A Waddle Thanks!

May has been a crazy month! It normally is with all of the end of school activities: concerts, auditions for the coming year, testing, etc. But what is adding to it this year is all the rain. I have never seen a spring in Utah like the one we are having this year. Normally it is so dry around here, and I joke about what a novelty it is when it rains. Not this year! Winter began with a huge cold spell in November, and it has been hanging on for dear life ever since. The ground is saturated, the mountains are still covered in snow, the reservoirs are filling up and it is STILL raining - a huge thunderstorm last night in particular! I still have tulips in bloom in my garden for crying out loud! They're my favorite flower, so I'm not complaining, but normally we see tulips at the end of March, beginning of April!

I have a drainage canal that runs through my neighborhood, and this morning when I stuck my head outside to see if I'd be able to go on my morning walk I heard lots of voices coming from the next street over. My first thought was, "Oh no, the river is overflowing and they have started sandbagging!" Thankfully that wasn't the case, but it gives you an idea of the conditions. I know that there is flooding going on in many areas of the country, including parts of Utah, and my heart goes out to the individuals that have been affected by these crazy and potentially destructive weather patterns.

The weather was my inspiration for my latest project. That, and the super cute stamps from the latest My Pink Stamper release. I just love all of Robyn's "punny" stamps - they're just so fun, just like Robyn! "A Waddle Thanks" comes from the set Biggie Punnies. What do you do when you're waterlogged and stuck indoors? You make a ducky card!

Cricut-tastic Award!

NSD Challenge #8 - Summer!

I'm getting there - really I am! I think all the challenges at My Pink Stamper for this year's National Scrapbook Day celebration were just fabulous and I want to do them all, but a few things have been getting in my way. My girls had auditions with our local community theater for a few hours on Saturday, and then yesterday was Mother's Day of coarse, and then on top of it all I am having a major allergy attack! I love spring, but spring does not love me! LOL!

I am so excited to show you my first card using Peachy Keen Stamps! I have been wanting some of the Peachy Keen face stamps for over a year now, and so I when I got some money for my birthday I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. You could say that this is a card of favorites: my favorite color (red), my favorite paper company (Doodlebug Design), my favorite stamps (My Pink Stamper), and my favorite new toy (Peachy Keen Face stamps).

I'm so glad that one of the NSD challenges over at My Pink Stamper was to make a Mother's Day project! I have two wonderful mothers in my life - my mother, and my mother-in-law. So I was glad to have the opportunity to make them something special and take the time to recognize them today.

The art of my life

I am married to a man of many talents, not the least of which is his musical ability. My husband is an event planner by trade, but also happens to be a very talented percussionist. Last year we learned about a new community symphony orchestra that was being formed in our area, and I encouraged him to get involved. Well, he is definitely involved - he is now on the board of directors, is the percussion section leader, and plays timpani. To say that I love to see him and hear him play...aaaah, there just aren't words to describe.

They had their first performance a few weeks ago, and it was fabulous. My husband is honored to be working under the direction of a truly great man - a fantastic conductor and really nice guy. He is the type of individual who brings the artistry out of a musician. My husband wanted to express his thanks, so I was all too happy to make a card for the occasion.

And isn't it just so fortunate that I recently purchased the cartridge Quarter Note? It was perfect for the occasion, as was the My Pink Stamper set Music Speaks.

Cricut Expression II Anniversary Edition - Celebration!

Let the countdown begin! April 26th is the day that the Cricut Expression II Anniversary Edition will be launched on the Home Shopping Network. I am so excited about this machine - it looks really cool! I am so excited that I even decided to submit an entry for the Fifth Anniversary Design Challenge. And since I live close to Provo Craft corporate headquarters, instead of sending mine in the mail I got to go there and deliver it in person. Well, I wasn't able to give it to Jinger in person, but I did give it to the receptionist! ;-) It was one of those, "Aaaahhhh..." (insert chorus of angels singing) moments where you feel like you are on holy ground. LOL!

I don't know if it will win, but I sure had fun making it! Those Toy Story cuts are a lot of work, but totally worth the time. I just LOVE that bandana print paper in the background too. And wouldn't you know, Robyn at My Pink Stamper had the perfect stamp set to go along: Boy Crazy!

FCCB Bunny Hop Challenge!

I did a little experiment, and low and behold, it turned into a challenge - a bunny hop challenge to be exact. I wanted to try making a carrot shaped box to put some Easter treats in. I used the tree box from the Tags, Bags, Boxes & More cartridge, cut some green grass with Plantin Schoolbook for the leaves, put a bunny on it and there you have it. Very simple, but very cute. Well, I think so anyway! ;-) And of coarse Robyn at My Pink Stamper has a perfect stamp to go along!

My Pink Design Team - April! Giveaway

It's always a party at My Pink Stamper - isn't Robyn just so fun? Well the celebration continues as today, me and my fellow designers feature party favors! With my little guy I just know that I have a Toy Story themed party in my future, so I thought it would be fun to use the Toy Story cartridge to create my party favor. And wouldn't you know, Robyn has the perfect set of stamps to go along with it! Today I am featuring My Pink Stamper's Boy Crazy:

This is such a fabulous set! And it's great for boys of all ages too. I know I'll be using this one a ton. If you would like to see where you can purchase some of these for yourself you can click here.

These party favors are just so easy to make too. I used my Gypsy to make this box from Tags, Bags, Boxes & More because the Gypsy would let me make the box a little bigger than I could with the Expression alone - at 7 inches. Then I used the Toy Story cartridge to cut the sheriff badge in the background. Once again enter Gypsy so I could just cut the basic star shape without the cuts on the interior of the star. And then of coarse, Woody! Put it all together, add some cute paper shred and some candy and there you have it! What little boy wouldn't love this? What little boy wouldn't tear this to pieces in 3 seconds? I try not to think about that part... ;-)
**Update** For those who have asked about the difficulty of this project - There isn't anything terribly difficult about this technique-wise. The boxes are easy to assemble and decorate. The time consuming part is the Woody cut, as anyone who has the Toy Story cartridge can tell you. This isn't like Create a Critter where the layering is really easy. With Toy Story there are a lot of little parts to piece together. This is why I went with this particular cut - Woody's head doesn't have quite as many little details to add. But in the end, it doesn't really matter how long it takes if you're enjoying doing it!

Spring Fling Challenge and a new cartridge!

I thought I would join in with the FCCB Spring Fling Challenge: make a project using pink, green and yellow. Thank goodness I have a new cartridge which was perfect: Florals Embellished.

Isn't it funny how you can take pictures at the same time, in the same place, but at different angles and the colors look totally different. I am certainly not what you would call an advanced photographer. The third picture is the one that shows the true colors in the card. I am really happy with how it turned out! And I was also happy that I had the perfect My Pink Stamper stamp for the sentiment. This one came from her set Everyday Life:

DCWV Warehouse sale!

At the risk of making those of you who do not live in Utah cry...

Tomorrow the Die Cuts With a View warehouse sale begins! If you are in the area, this is definitely a sale that you can't miss. Last year they had the 12 x 12 stacks for $5! They had their wall vinyl for $3! Just be prepared because you know what happens when you put a bunch of scrappers in a warehouse with prices like that - it gets a little crazy! For the best selection you need to get there early, but be prepared to wait in line for a long time.

Pics from Hawaii!

I loved every minute of my trip to Hawaii. I'm sure it helped, of coarse, that my husband's position had people falling all over themselves welcoming us, treating us to dinners, and generally spoiling us. A mother needs that once in a while! The weather was beautiful, the people were beautiful, the scenery was beautiful. I just loved the relaxed atmosphere, and well, being kissed by Polynesian men wasn't so bad either. ;-)

The beautiful lei the hotel staff presented me with. It was incredible - every blossom was wrapped in a flower petal, and then the flowers and the stems were all woven together.

At Pearl Harbor - you can see the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial and the U.S.S. Missouri in the background.

We went to visit a macadamia nut farm, and it just so happened to also be the location where scenes for my favorite t.v. show (Off the Map) are filmed. Look familiar?

My husband lived in Japan for a couple of years, so it was wonderful to partake of the Japanese culture on the island. This is the Byodo-In temple which is in the Valley of the Temples. Many television shows have been filmed here also, including Lost.

My husband and I were on the island running a music festival for junior high school and high school aged children. This was the setting for the awards ceremony that we presented after the festival. We were at the Polynesian Cultural Center and this is the stage were they perform their night show. Have you ever seen a more beautiful stage? The show was incredible, and very moving. After seeing such a display of incredible dancing and music it makes me feel that the American culture is just a complete lack of culture!

This is what was waiting for us when we returned to our hotel room after the awards ceremony. I told you we were spoiled!

I couldn't resist taking a picture of this! We went to the Dole Plantation and these were for sale in the gift shop. I opted to try the pineapple and the most delicious Dole Whip instead of the Spam flavored macadamia nuts. Call me crazy...

We are Food Network junkies at our house, so naturally we had to travel to the north shore to Matsumoto's to try their famous shave ice. We also ate at Hank's while we were there, a hot dog joint featured on Diner's Drive Ins and Dives.

And last but not least, we had to go back to Laie so we could see the beautiful temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I would have liked to have gone inside also, but being General Conference weekend it was closed. Between the Polynesian Cultural Center, BYU-Hawaii, and the temple, all of Laie is just beautiful.

And there you have it! Even though it was a working vacation, I loved every minute of it. I can't wait to go back!

You know, it's great to take a break once in a while - I've had a long one between family visiting and going on my trip - but I've missed my papercrafting time! We LOVE cupcakes at our house! My oldest daughter who is 11 years old especially loves cupcakes, and when that sweet tooth strikes her favorite thing to say is, "I feel like a big, frosted cupcake!" I think the very first Cricut cartridge I ever bought was Sweet Treats, and it is still one of my favorites. But today I wanted to try one of my new cartridges, so I decided to use one of the cute cupcakes on the Once Upon a Princess Cartridge:

I also tried a new technique with this card: an accordian fold flower. I have been wanting to try one of these for a while, and it was the perfect excuse to get out my new Martha Stewart Score Board. What a super easy, fun technique?

Aloha from Hawaii!

I just wanted to check in and say that I'm still alive and kicking - and in Hawaii! The weather has been absolutely gorgeous. Yesterday we went to Pearl Harbor - very solemn, but very meaningful. They have a new museum that explains a lot of the history that led up to the attack - a beautiful facility and I learned a lot. It was also very emotional going out to the USS Arizona Memorial - I truly felt like I was on sacred ground (or water, as it were).

Today I look forward to getting further out of Honolulu - to see a macadamia nut farm! Then my husband and I have work later on this afternoon and again tomorrow, but then it's time to play again. We're going to the Polynesian Cultural Center, the Dole Plantation, Matsumoto's for shaved ice! Woo hoo!

Scrapbook USA Expo

There are some definite advantages to living in Utah when you're a papercrafter. One of those is the Scrapbook USA Expo. I have been trying to decide all week whether I was going to go or not, but finally decided I would today. Am I glad I went? Well, I brought my three children with me - one of which is my very active, and at the moment very over tired (from all the partying with my sister being in town) son. It was a bit of a challenge to say the least. But I did find what I wanted while I was there:

I was able to see both the Cricut Imagine, and the limited edition Cricut Expression 2 in action. Very cool! I also learned from the product development rep that the Cricut Craft Room is supposed to be ready to launch in 2-3 weeks. You can see a video clip of the Cricut Expression 2 and Cricut Craft room here.
Doodlebug Design Co had a booth! I love their products - such bright, happy colors and the cutest images and accessories.
I finally found the cartridge Quarter Note for a price that I was willing to pay. CreativeXpress was there (aka ProvoCraft), and they had some smokin' prices on their cartridges towards the end of the day.
I also saw Erin Madsen of DCWV at their booth and the infamous DCWV paper dresses.

and last but not least

I was able to add a little to my Copic collection (I bet you didn't know I even owned Copics! I am kind of a Cricut girl, but I do love my Copics). The booth that I purchased them from was Scrap-mart.com. Now, I have never ordered through their online store before, so I can't speak for that aspect of the company, but I can report that they have a good price for Copic Sketch and Ciao, PLUS they offer free shipping. That's huge for me because there are a few online stores that have great prices for the markers but have horrible shipping costs. And if you use the code First10 at Checkout, you can get 10% off of your first order over $50.00.

A little update

I just wanted to let you know that I haven't dropped from off the face of the planet. It's a little crazy around here right now because I have family staying with me. It's so wonderful to have my sister and her family here, and to give all the cousins time to spend together! But it means very little time for creating. And as soon they leave I will be getting ready for my trip to Hawaii! So for the next 2 weeks there probably won't be a lot going on here. I miss my papercrafting time, but my family is more important right now. See you soon!

My Pink Design Team - March!

Welcome! Are you feeling scrappy? I hope so because this month my fellow My Pink Design Team members and I have all done some scrapbooking for your inspiration and viewing pleasure! I'm happy to say that I may have found the secret for me to even do scrapbooking - make the layouts in advance! I know this isn't a new idea necessarily, but it's new for me! I was an avid scrapbooker for the first two years of my oldest daughter's life - then #2 was born, and well, it just hasn't happened since...

Guess where I'm going next week? You guessed it - Hawaii! I'm so excited because I've never been there before, and because it means precious alone time with my husband. And what makes it even better is I'm being paid to go! Definitely something to scrap about. I just hope that I don't end up journaling the time that I caused a car accident with the glare from my lily white skin, or the wonderful cold that I caught while there (that's an Andrea classic!).

Piece of cake!

I made this a month or so ago for a contest that I entered, and I can finally show it to you because I didn't win. Waaahhh!!!

Seriously though, I loved making this cake! This is probably the most satisfying project I have ever made. It sat on my kitchen counter on a cake stand for weeks! I almost shed a tear as I glued it all together because it is going to be on display at my local Joann for an upcoming class.

For those of you who haven't seen these before, the cake is made using the triangle box from the Tags, Bags, Boxes & More cartridge. Put a bunch of triangles together, and what do you get? A cake! The very top layer was made from an embellished paper mache box. Some of the rosettes were made from an Imaginisce Roly Rosies pack, but then I figured out how to do them freehand - even better!

The best part of this project is you can actually use the pieces of the cake to hold party favors. What little girl wouldn't love this at their party, and then be able to take a little piece of "cake" home with them?
